The ninth Health Informatics in Africa Conference – HELINA 2014 planned to take place in Accra Ghana from the 7th to 11th of March 2015 will be co-organized by HELINA and the Ghana Health Informatics Association (GHIA) and hosted by GHIA. GHIA is the national platform for health informatics activities in Ghana with membership drawn from corporate bodies, professionals and researchers involved in Health, Insurance, Medical Informatics, Public Health and Computer Science in Ghana from within and outside the country. The organization is a member of the Pan African Health Informatics in Africa Association (HELINA) and the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA).

HELINA and GHIA aim with this year’s conference at:

  • Highlighting the role of Health Informatics applications for the Universal Health Coverage in Africa
  • Promoting the development and implementation of an African eHealth strategy as well as the development of eHealth strategies, policies, and architectures in each African country
  • Showcasing best practices in Health Informatics –incl. ehealth and telemedicine- and its application in Africa: implemented health data standards and interoperable solutions, hospital information system, electronic health/medical/patient records, clinical decision support systems, monitoring and evaluation systems, registers, data mining, big data analytics and reporting platforms, health insurance and electronic claims processing among others
  • Translating research and innovations into improved healthcare delivery system
  • Fostering the creation of networks between African Countries as well as eHealth initiatives in Africa
  • Fostering the development of Health Informatics research and education in Africa.

Through research and project reports on Health Informatics for the universal health coverage in Africa, we hope to all intents and purposes, to contribute significantly to efforts aimed at the development of health-informatics or ehealth-based solution-approach for a sustainable healthcare access to all in Africa. As such, special focus will also be given to consolidate our existing working groups –WG Education, WG Standards and Interoperability, WG Data Mining and Big Data Analytics- as well initiating, building and consolidating networks among participants from different African states. Appropriate time and room will be allocated for interactive / brainstorming workshops, panel discussion, focus group sessions as well as ice breaking / meet-and-greet’ opportunities.

Format:

Research and work-in-progress papers, tutorials, Workshops, keynote addresses and panels with international participation, meet the experts’ sessions, and Brainstorming sessions

Intended Audience:

Healthcare Professionals (Physicians, Nurses, Midwives, Lab specialists and technicians, Managers, Clerks), interested in health care technology, ICT, Telecommunications, and Microelectronic professionals dedicated to developing applications for health care, decision makers, government officials, industry leaders, eHealth organizations, researchers in health management, public health, biomedical/health informatics, medicine and professionals interested in ICT applications for health care, and students (medicine, health informatics, computer sciences)
